The power of zines lies in the independence of ideas. With such low cost in production, artists could freely express their own ideas without relying on publishers that could censor them. Politically, zines have always been a tool used to critique the government. I like the freedom in the form of zines. In comparison to book, zines have less of a guideline. This very lack of guidelines is what keeps this form relevant. Zines adapt with advancements in technology. I believe this form will remain relevant. In the early zine scene the creation of a international network in which there was no separation between artists and the audience was a dominant goal. With the creation of the internet that international network will only expand.
